Native to Mexico, we source our ancho chillies from the Zacatecas region in central west Mexico. We are working with a specialist importer of Mexican chillies for our ancho chillies, so although we can't offer full traceability to farm level just yet, we can still guarantee the same consistently great tasting product. The ancho chillies are first de-stalked then de-seeded here in Bristol, before we grind and sieve the chilli flakes.
In order to get the best out of our spices, we've included a QR code on the side of the glass jar label. This links back to our website with ancho chilli cooking tips & recipe ideas. The cooking tips give you ideas on how to season your food in different ways with ancho chilli. The recipe ideas focus around seasonal, vegetarian eating to help with a more balanced, sustainable diet.
All spices are available in both glass jars and refill pouches. Packaging is either recyclable or compostable. The refill pouches are the exact same quantity as the jars so you only have to buy the jar once, or not at all if you already have your own.
The main benefit of buying our glass jars are the QR codes & artwork on the labels which is curated and designed by local Bristol artist & illustrator Hannah Grace. Our jars have 4 different designs, each representing a landscape from where our spices are sourced.
