This single origin 'Wayanad White' pepper is as the name suggests grown in Wayanad, Southern India. White pepper is from the exact same plant and berry as black pepper, only that the skin is removed after soaking. The result is a slightly smoother less complex taste but with remaining fruitiness characterised by Wayanad peppercorns.
The pepper variety is Panniyur-1 which is the most common variety of peppercorn grown in Southern India due to its inherently larger berry size and good yield potential. Farmers are however diversifying away from the Panniyur-1 to remain more resilient in the face of climate change. Our aim is to recognise these different varieties to help grow diversity in the supply chain.
